Sharing Data in a Public Health Emergency

0

The case for sharing data, and the consequences of not doing so, have been brought into stark relief by the Ebola and Zika outbreaks. In response, the New England Journal of Medicine has become a journal signatory to the following statement.

“In the context of a public health emergency of international concern, it is imperative that all parties make available any information that might have value in combatting the crisis. As research funders and journals, we are committed to working in partnership to ensure that the global response to public health emergencies is informed by the best available research evidence and data.

Journal signatories will make all content concerning the Zika virus free access. Any data or preprint deposited for unrestricted dissemination ahead of submission of any paper will not preempt later publication in these journals.

Funder signatories will require researchers undertaking work relevant to public health emergencies to establish mechanisms to share quality-assured interim and final data as rapidly and widely as possible, including with public health and research communities and the World Health Organization. We urge other journals and research funders to make the same commitments.”

Cherry Blossom Symposium 2016

0

The 10th International Conference of Clinical Laboratory Automation, 2016. 4.20-22, Seoul, Korea

Since the first meeting in 1998, the biannual symposium has served as a fundamental platform for people involved in the field of clinical laboratory automation to share the most up-to-date developments, research results, and accomplishments in related fields.

The Organizing Committee is gearing up for an exciting and informative conference program including plenary lectures, symposia, industry workshops and poster sessions.

As one of the most beautiful locations in the world to marvel at the cherry blossoms coming into full bloom, Seoul also offers magnificent state-of-the-art facilities and convenient public transportation, making it the ideal city to host the 2016 conference. Also, the venue, the Glad Hotel is located across from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, the center of the nation’s politics.

Labquality Days 2016 – Nordic Congress on Quality in Laboratory Medicine

0

The Labquality Days Congress will be held at Messukeskus, Expo and Convention Centre Helsinki on 11th-12th of February 2016. Labquality Days is one of the largest annual congresses in Scandinavia focused on quality and laboratory medicine.

The congress inspires clinical chemistry, laboratory medicine professionals, researchers, healthcare experts, users of point-of-care devices, medical staff working with quality issues, managers and higher level personnel adiminstration of social- and or healthcare sectors.

The 2016 congress themes are now announced: Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) and Preanalytics. POCT has already a major role in healthcare workflow. Test sensitivity or specificity, price, speed and patient convenience are some heavily discussed topics in scientific meetings. In preanalytics, various disciplines such as microbiology, clinical chemistry and haematology have their own characteristic variables. Individual analyses have some unique factors that should also be taken into account in order to get reliable results.

Labquality Days will gather leading international speakers and opinion leaders together. The program consists of scientific lectures and panel discussions. During the congress participants have the opportunity to meet colleagues, share ideas and experience the vast clinical laboratory exhibition.

Helsinki – one of the northern winter capitals is a safe, cool and clean place to visit next February.
